We recently joined Dennis Oz from RTA Marketing on the Remodeler Success Podcast, where our owner Greg May shared stories from decades of serving homeowners across the Santa Clara Valley. Over the course of the conversation, Greg reflected on how our company has grown from its family roots in the 1970s into a trusted full-service remodeler today. He talked about the lessons passed down from his father, the importance of building lasting relationships with clients and trade partners, and the systems we use to make remodeling projects run as smoothly as possible. What follows is a homeowner-friendly version of that conversation. If you are considering a remodel, we hope this gives you a clear picture of who we are, how we think, and what it feels like to work with us—from the first handshake to the final walk-through.
We were raised in this craft to do it right. That means caring about more than the finish line. We care about the details that shape your daily experience while we are in your home, and we care about the relationships that make a project run smoothly. We treat clients, employees, and subcontractors with the same respect. It pays off when there is a surprise and we need a trade partner to show up quickly. They answer because we have always shown up for them too. That attitude serves you.
“Everything matters. It is the client, it is the project, and it is all the little things that happen around that too.”
Greg May | May Construction
Another thing you can expect from us is clarity. The old idea of collecting three quick bids for a complex remodel often leads to guesswork and frustration. We prefer a cooperative bid process. Together with you, and often with your designer and key trade partners, we work through product choices and scope decisions up front. That is how we prevent surprise change orders. Years ago a plumber needed an extra day because the shower system had more valves than expected. Lesson learned. Now we collect and share exact fixture lists during estimating so every trade prices what will actually be installed.
Here is how we build accuracy and calm into your project before anyone swings a hammer:
Remodeling touches more than a room. It touches your routines and your street. We communicate with care in both places.
Before we start, nearby neighbors receive a friendly note with our contact information. If a truck is in the way, we want them calling us, not knocking on your door. When we finish, we send a thank you note for their patience. Inside your home, our field team follows organized processes that put cleanliness, safety, and respect first. Drawings, selections, schedules, and vendor information live in a shared project folder the team can access in real time. That organization gives your project the best chance of success.
We have even completed full projects for traveling clients with weekly photo updates and scheduled calls. One of our smoothest jobs happened while the homeowners were in Florida. Because the roadmap was complete, decisions were made, and communication was steady, the project stayed on track without stress.
Great remodels are built by skilled people who are supported to do their best work. We invest in training, clear roles, and honest feedback. We match tasks to strengths, and we coach through weaknesses. Our culture rewards problem solving and ownership.
We also encourage transparency. Everyone makes mistakes. The most dangerous mistake is the one that is hidden. If something happens, we want to know right away so we can make it right and keep the project moving. Clients feel the difference when a team communicates like that.
Over the years our mindset has evolved from doing everything ourselves to building a company that gets it done through systems and leadership. That shift is what allows us to run organized projects where you can see progress, understand next steps, and feel confidence from start to finish. We are also exploring helpful tools as they make sense. For example, we use writing support for some blog content and we review it with our own voice and standards. New tools matter, but the real promise for homeowners is the same as it has always been. Clear plans, skilled hands, and people who care.
If you are interviewing remodelers, listen for how they talk about process, decisions, and relationships. Ask how selections are handled, when trade partners get involved, and what happens if something unexpected appears. The answers will tell you a lot about your experience ahead. Our promise is simple. We will treat your home with respect, we will communicate clearly, and we will do the right thing even when it is the hard thing. That is how we have earned trust for decades, and it is how we plan to earn yours.
