San Jose Addition and Remodel

The Existing home had the standard 1970’s layout, a cramped and oak filled U-shaped kitchen tucked behind walls. The senseless upper cabinets over the peninsula blocked site lines while the massive boxy staircase lay right in the middle of the floor plan leaving the spaces feeling closed in and disconnected. Having lived in and falling in love with Hawaii, the focus of this design and whole house San Jose remodel was to embrace the exterior views of the greenery filled backyard while providing an open, modern layout.

Tearing down the confining kitchen walls, relocating the staircase and an addition of a laundry room combined the living and dining areas into one open great room. From the moment you now enter this newly remodeled San Jose Home, you are greeted with Light pouring in from every direction. Large black framed windows and a nearly full wall panoramic door, allows expansive views of the outdoors and serves as a seamless extension of the home's great room. Grand vaulted ceilings, highlighting the dramatic floating staircase, levitating wood treads and glass railing brings drama and dimension creating modern centerpiece.

In this island inspired space, moody black cabinets and mixed blue and greens subway tile backsplash wraps around the entire kitchen. To break up the dark cabinets, floating shelves are positioned between the windows to maintain a light and airy look and custom made teal cabinet pulls. A tall appliance caddy and a massive island with seating for 6 prove this custom kitchen is built for entertaining.
Blue hues and modernity continue into the reconfigured hall bathroom. Designed as a wet room features a freestanding soaking tub, floating vanity and walk in curbless shower. A glass panel opens the room to natural light while the full tiled wall exudes luxury.

Working through our In-House design process May Construction worked hand in hand with these homeowners though thoughtful design and personal touches we not only elevated their home but enhanced their daily life.

"Wow! That's the first word that comes out of every person's mouth when they first walk into our completely remodeled home. And that's a perfect testament to the fantastic job that May Construction did on every aspect of our project. We liked the idea of using a design-and-build company -- an all-inclusive one-stop shop, essentially, to avoid the potential conflicts between an architect and contractor which we'd experienced in the past. We were impressed with Greg May when we first met with him and it was an easy decision to go with his company after speaking with several references -- recent customers who all raved about them and their work, all saying the same positive things. May Construction lived up to all the features and benefits which they advertise. They are very organized and their system is designed to minimize the typical problems which arise during most remodels. They give you a reasonably accurate estimate of the time frame and cost of your project, they stick to the schedule, and they work with you to control additional costs.  They provide a skilled designer and a list of preferred vendors to help you choose products and materials and ensure that you make your choices well in advance to avoid delays in the future. In my opinion, the very best thing about them, though, is the high quality of the workmanship, primarily due to the expertise of all the subcontractors they use. All of those professionals -- the framers, the plumber, the electrician, the HVAC, the tile guy, the cabinet-maker, flooring installers, drywall guys, painter, etc. -- ALL of them were simply top-notch, outstanding craftspeople who did beautiful work. The May team's onsite personnel also did great work, for their part, and did a good job of supervising and coordinating the subcontractors. The entire job (a whole-home remodel) went incredibly smoothly and they actually finished a month ahead of schedule, which is absolutely unheard of! And without cutting corners or sacrificing quality. May Construction's excellent reputation is well-deserved and I highly recommend them."- Jeff and Akiko G., San Jose, Ca.
